The year is almost over, I can’t believe it.
But before the year ends, I thought I might share some of my favorite fitness videos of the year thus far. These are subject to opinion but there is no denying that they are pretty great videos overall.
If you want to get the body that you see on Superman during the Man of Steel movie, then you need to train like Henry Cavill did. He did a number of different workouts in order to pack on muscle and burn fat for the Superman movie. As we all know, the results were really impressive. Here is how he did it.
He had a personal trainer that worked with him on a daily basis, so he was able to focus on the best methods of building muscle. He did long two hours sessions each day in order to build the muscle and ensure that he was burning enough fat. These long workouts worked all the major muscle groups of the body and sculpt the perfect male physique.
This meant he worked the shoulders, chest, triceps, legs and back during a set routine each week. He would use high reps and heavy weights in order to get the look that the movie required. He used a one day on, and one day off routine so he gave his body time to recover between workouts. This is the best way to build muscle in the quickest time possible. Never forget that your body builds and repairs the muscle when you are resting, sleeping and eating.
He also ate a huge amount of calories in order to give his body the right amount of nutrients, and to ensure that he kept growing on a daily basis. Unless you are giving your body the right number of calories, you will not be able to grow. You also need to ensure that you eat plenty of high quality proteins and fats. Henry Cavill ate tons of protein with each meal, as well as good fats such as nuts and avocados. If you follow this advice, you can also grow.
Jason Staham, the actor, recently went to prison, not as an inmate, but as an observer. He wanted to see what the inmates were doing to get into shape while they were in prison, as opposed to what most people try to do in a gym. He found that the inmates did not have all the fancy weights available, but what they did have they made good use of.
The weights had been banned from the prison yard a long time ago, so the prisoners were using their own bodies as weights. So they did sit ups, pushups, pullups (how to do pullups here), and squats. These are all old school techniques that still work just as well as they did 100 years ago.
Staham’s workout routine mimics that if the prison yard in the intensity and pace of which he observed, that is fast intense workouts with little rest in between sets of exercises. This increases heart rate and pushes the muscles to their max.
For the movie Death Race, Staham pared his 189 pounds down to a slim 168 in 11 weeks of hard, interval-based, fast action intense intervals. Then a steady diet of barbells, kettle bells and sandbags were used. The emphasis was on the achievement of the wiry body type observed in the prison yard, which was quick and incredibly strong. To finish of the circuit, he finished with more squats, and heaver weights.
The key to the success of Staham’s workouts seems to come from the increasing intensity that builds as the workouts continue. The pace increases as the weight increases, giving the entire workout regimen a crescendo of its own.
Staham says that he never does the same workout twice, which keeps everything from getting boring. Everything is very fast paced which adds more excitement and flavor. One thing that cannot be argued is the results.
